Why Recall Al VanWashenova?
Alan “Al” VanWashenova is the current Frenchtown Charter Township Supervisor. His recall is sought for a variety of reasons both related and unrelated to the proposed hyperscale A.I. data center.
First, Mr. VanWashenova expects to make millions off of his position as Township Supervisor. Mr. VanWashenova owns nearly sixty three (63) acres of farmland that he is currently selling for data center development. A recorded phone call to the real estate agent selling the property determined that the current offer for Mr. VanWashenova’s land is $150,000 per acre. Mr. VanWashenova has voted on ordinances that directly affect his ability to sell his land for a data center, despite the obvious conflict of interest. Mr. VanWashenova has refused to recuse himself from matters involving data centers.
Second, on February 10, 2026, Mr. VanWashenova was stripped of all of his non-statutory duties as Township Supervisor due to a pattern of harassment, intimidation, and violent outbursts. During the hearing, Trustee Bussell stated that Mr. VanWashenova had threatened to take a bat to her knees to silence her. Mr. VanWashenova called the allegations against him and in the investigation a, “witch hunt.” Despite the resolution disciplining him, Mr. VanWashenova has continued to threaten and harass local residents both before and after board meetings.
The recall language for Alan VanWashenova reads as follows:
“Engaged in misconduct resulting in the vote of the Frenchtown Charter Township board to restrict Mr. VanWashenova's acces to Twp. owned property. Screamed profanities at Twp. staff, consultants and residents and damaging Twp. property.”
