Why Recall Julie Ellison?
Julie Ellison is the current Frenchtown Charter Township Treasurer. Her recall is sought due to her continued support for the development of hyperscale A.I. data centers in Frenchtown Charter Township.
Ms. Ellison is an ardent supporter of data center development in Frenchtown Charter Township. Her support started when she and other board members helped organize a special board meeting on November 17, 2025. Prior to the board meeting, Cloverleaf Infrastructure had requested that board members answer residents questions, instead of making Cloverleaf’s employees answer them. Julie Ellison sat through the entire sales pitch on November 17, 2025 and did not ask any critical questions of Cloverleaf during the meeting.
While many other Board members have publicly and privately renounced data center development, Ms. Ellison has refused to discuss her personal views on the data center. On December 23, 2025, Ms. Ellison, along with Trustee Sheila Bussell and Supervisor Alan VanWashenova, voted yes to permit Frenchtown Charter Township to enter a sixty-day exclusivity period with hyperscale A.I. data center developer, Cloverleaf Infrastructure.
Ms. Ellison has been given multiple opportunities to answer whether she still supports data centers. Indeed, just after her recall language was approved, she took to Facebook and bemoaned this recall. Her post stated that, “I have NOT voted in favor of a Data Center.” This is demonstrably false, given her vote on the exclusivity agreement outlined above. Further, when asked if she would have done anything differently in the past year regarding the data center, Ms. Ellison shook her head no. Ms. Ellison will not tell residents what her official stance is on data center development is, and she has to be removed.
The recall language for Julie Ellison reads as follows:
“Attended a presentation by Cloverleaf Infrastructure representatives regarding a potential data center at 1500 N Dixie Hwy, Monroe, MI during a special board meeting on November 17, 2025.”
