Why Recall Sheila Bussell?

Sheila Bussell is the current Frenchtown Charter Township Interim Superintendent and a Trustee. Her recall is sought due to her continued support for the development of hyperscale A.I. data centers in Frenchtown Charter Township.

Sheila Bussell became Interim Superintendent after the disciplinary resolution against Supervisor Alan VanWashenova took effect. Despite promising to work for her constituents, Ms. Bussell has been seen regularly scrolling on her phone during public comment during Board meetings. Public comment is the time for residents to voice their concerns to the Board and to Ms. Bussell. Yet, she refuses to listen to her own constituents.

Additionally, Ms. Bussell is an ardent supporter of data center development in Frenchtown Charter Township. her support started when she and other board members helped organize a special board meeting on November 17, 2025. Prior to the board meeting, Cloverleaf Infrastructure had requested that board members answer residents questions, instead of making Cloverleaf’s employees answer them. Sheila Bussell sat through the entire sales pitch on November 17, 2025 and did not ask any critical questions of Cloverleaf during the meeting.

While many other Board members have publicly and privately renounced data center development, Ms. Bussell has refused to discuss her personal views on the data center. On December 23, 2025, Ms. Bussell, along with Treasurer Julie Ellison and Supervisor Alan VanWashenova, voted yes to permit Frenchtown Charter Township to enter a sixty-day exclusivity period with data center developer, Cloverleaf Infrastructure. When asked why she voted to permit the exclusivity agreement, she purportedly told residents that the $20,000 exclusivity fee was “free money” for the Township.

Ms. Bussell has been given multiple opportunities to answer whether she still supports data centers. Indeed, just after her recall language was approved, she took to Facebook and bemoaned this recall. Her post stated that, “I would also like to state that the township has never approved, endorsed, or even entertained a vote to allow a data center in our community.” This is demonstrably false, given her vote on the exclusivity agreement outlined above. Ms. Bussell will not tell residents what her official stance is on data center development is, and she has to be removed.

The recall language for Sheila Bussell reads as follows:

“Attended a presentation by Cloverleaf Infrastructure representatives regarding a potential data center at 1500 N Dixie Hwy, Monroe, MI during a special board meeting on November 17, 2025.”
